Stefano Boeri Architetti, specialized in greenery-covered architecture, has presented his design for a football stadium and sports complex in Milan (Italy). The ambitious project would include a park and a museum, and would be filled with thousands of plants and trees that, according to the study, would absorb tons of CO 2 per year.
The project is called International Forest Stadium and aims to replace the San Siro stadium in Milan. It will be part of a much broader master plan that aims to transform the district into a major sports destination.
The stadium would be shared by the Milan soccer teams AC Milan and FC Internazionale Milano.
Stefano Boeri Architetti has not specified his capacity. An adjacent tower would offer a museum space dedicated to both football clubs, as well as historical information about the previous stadium, and house statues of notable footballers and coaches on top.
The project would also involve the Phone Number List construction of some public facilities and services, such as an athletics track and gyms, commercial spaces, bars and restaurants, as well as nearby offices and a park. All of this would be surrounded by a lot of vegetation, offering a park atmosphere .
The stadium is designed to house 5,700 m 2 of horizontal green roofs, 7,000 m 2 of green facades with 3,300 trees and 56,300 shrubs of 70 different species, which are expected to absorb 162 tons of CO 2 per year. A green lung for the metropolis and a place of green connection in the urban fabric, capable of helping to clean the air, absorb fine dust and mitigate the temperature of the neighborhood, thanks to the fact that the vegetation reduces the "heat island" effect.

In addition, a self-consumption system with photovoltaic solar panels would be installed to reduce energy use from the stadium network. Measures will also be taken to minimize water consumption, although there are no further details yet on what this would entail.
ARUP, Fabio Novembre and Balich Wonder Studio also participate in the International Forest Stadium project. A representative from Stefano Boeri Architetti has confirmed that the project is in the proposal phase, so it is not known when it will take place or if it will be completed.
